Hilarious Video of Kids Tasting Foods for the First Time

May 12, 2013

This great video reminded me of some of the classic expressions my children have when trying a new dinner recipe:

A heartwarming and hilarious video has captured the brutal honesty of children’s first encounters with new foods, showing their reactions in slow motion.

Made by Saatchi & Saatchi, the two and a half minute homage entitled The First Taste was inspired when a creative director at the company’s Australian branch watched his own daughter try a gherkin.

The video focuses on seven toddlers and infants as they try sophisticated foods such as pickled onions, olives, anchovies and Vegemite.

When Children Say Too Much

April 19, 2013

It is important to remind your children that there are certain secrets and personal family stories that they shouldn’t be revealing in class. It is very common for students to say things about their mother or father that would cause them much embarrassment.

That is why an assignment calling for students to write one sentence about a family member, and draw a picture of it, was always going to be a bit risky. It is no wonder that one student submitted this:

Why Spelling is Important at Starbucks

February 26, 2013

sucks

Too bad a paper cup doesn’t have a spell check option:

ursUrsula’s coffee order was made out to ‘Arsela’ by a hurried barista

manMolly must have ordered an awfully strong espresso to have her drink made out to ‘Manly’

ordriThey almost got Audrey’s name right, they just didn’t use the English language version

chadAt least they have two of the letters right from Chad’s name

messBess must not have looked her best that day

vagEven if the barista didn’t hear Virginia’s name they could have come up with something better

anusAnn-Louise deserves a much nicer nickname than the one Starbucks picked

The Innocence of Youth

October 22, 2012

A 7-year old girl writes a precious note that captures the innocence and simplicity of youth. It is just such a privilege to be working with young people. Their view of the world is refreshingly positive and uncomplicated and their tone lacks the sarcasm that adults often project.
