Police Arrest Mother for Letting Her Children Play Outside

September 19, 2012

Apparently our freedom isn’t as clear as we have been led to believe:

A MOTHER in the US has spent the night in jail after she was arrested for allowing her children to play outside unsupervised.

Texas mum Tammy Cooper was arrested for child endangerment after a neighbour saw her children riding their scooters around a cul-de-sac and called police.

Ms Cooper, who was arrested for child endangerment, insists she was watching her children from a lawn chair in her front yard.

According to Ms Cooper a police man arrived saying she was under arrest.

“I went out there to see what he was here for and he said, ‘Ma’am, we’re here for you.’ I said, ‘Oh really? Why?’ He proceeded to tell me he had received a call from one of my neighbours that my kids were riding their scooters unsupervised,” Cooper told KRPC.

She says police also interrogated her children.

“My daughter had him [the police officer] around the leg saying, “Please, please don’t take my mom to jail. Please, she didn’t do anything wrong’”.

She is now suing the La Porte Police Department.

Who Would Let Their Child Play with Gorillas? (Video)

September 18, 2012

Damian Aspinall seems quite comfortable to have his child play with a gorilla. Even if such an activity isn’t as unsafe as it seems, can Mr. Aspinall explain how such an experiment is in the best interests of his child?

Filling Our Children With Hate and Negativity

September 16, 2012

This picture makes me worry about the rising number of extremists and their indoctrination of our precious young. Our children need to see the positive aspects of humanity and be reminded of all the good there is in the world.

Parenting Advice that Hits the Mark

September 13, 2012

I am usually quite reluctant to post advice on parenting. I find parenting advice quite preachy and just because something has worked for one child doesn’t mean it will work for another.

But having stumbled upon ‘s brilliant list of ‘don’t’ rules for parents, I thought I would make this an exception to my rule:

*Don’t Worry About the Things You Can’t Control: What’s out of your control you can’t put too much thought into. You can only keep track of your own actions or thoughts. So focus on what is possible.

*Don’t Forget to Pee: This is one of those sayings that rings true for parents. We are so focused on the kids that we completely forget about ourselves. All of a sudden, five years go by and you wonder what happened. It’s important to have balance and not forget about what you need in the wake of your children’s needs.

*Don’t Follow Anyone Else’s Lead: Everybody will have their own take on what good parenting is. Don’t follow anybody else’s lead. It’s important to hear people out and see what may work and not work for them as a parent, but listen to your own gut and follow your own path. Being a leader will take you far as a parent.

*Don’t Be Complacent: Mix things up for you and your kids as much as you can. When we get too comfortable is when things get boring. Try your best to keep things exciting on all levels for everyone.

*Don’t Miss Out On Daily Meditation: It is vital to keep a calm state of mind as a parent. One way to do this is to get re-centered on a daily basis. I suggest doing some soul-searching meditation every day. This will get you through the rest of your day.

*Don’t Underestimate the Influence of Other Kids: A bad apple has been known to spoil the bunch. As your kids get older, keep a watchful eye on who they are hanging out with. If your child is acting up all of a sudden, look to see what may be the cause. If it’s due to the influence of a buddy, try to cool that relationship off.

*Don’t Carry Guilt: It’s important not to carry guilt as a parent. Whether it’s an argument with your spouse, picking up your child late from soccer practice or sleeping in on a Saturday morning, don’t feel guilty. No parent is perfect. Let go of the guilt and make tomorrow a new day.

Schools Putting Spy Cameras in Toilets and Change Rooms

September 12, 2012

Under no circumstances should a school be able to spy on students in change rooms and toilets:

School pupils are being watched by an astonishing 100,000 spy cameras, a report revealed yesterday.

CCTV surveillance has been set up in playgrounds, classrooms and even toilets and changing rooms.

Some schools have a camera for every five children in the name of controlling violence, vandalism and theft. In fact, the average secondary now has 24 cameras and an academy 30.

In a development that has already provoked outrage among some parents, more than 200 schools have CCTV operating in changing rooms or toilets.

Top of the list for camera/pupil ratio is the Christ the King Catholic and Church of England Centre for Learning in Knowsley, Merseyside.

Cameras have been placed in changing rooms and toilets by 207 schools, which have 825 cameras in all trained on areas where pupils might expect to have a degree of privacy. Radcliffe Riverside School in Bury has the highest number of changing room cameras, with 20.

Mother Shaves Numbers Into Quadruplets Heads So People Can Tell Them Apart

September 7, 2012

The problem of identifying these Chinese quadruplets is very real. The solution is very cruel:

According to Chinese news website NOW News, Tan Chaoyun from Shenzhen, China, has shaved numbers into the heads of her 6-year-old sons to help teachers differentiate them.

Tan said that when she had registered her kids for elementary school, the boys’ future teachers had worriedly informed her that they would likely have difficulty telling them apart.

So in an attempt to avert potential mayhem, Tan decided that the boys — who are reportedly identical save for differences in the shape of their eyelids — needed to be adorned with a more distinguishing trait that would set them apart from each other.

“My sons are identical, even to me,” said Tan, according to MSN. “I could only tell the difference between them by having different ankle tags on them before they turned 18 months old.”

“Even now, their father can’t tell which one is which. Sometimes, he punishes the second one for something the third one has done.”

Ever heard of name tags?

Potty Training at a Restaurant Table!

September 6, 2012

I try not to judge other parents, but I just can’t let this one go without making a comment.

Potting training can be a very difficult challenge, especially when you have twins, but there is nothing more disgusting than to practice it at the table of a restaurant:

A MOTHER is facing a backlash of criticism worldwide after she was caught potty training her twin daughters in a busy restaurant.

The mother from Utah was first seen by nearby diner Kimberly Decker, who was having lunch with a friend.

She was spotted at the famous Thanksgiving Point Deli in Lehi, in Las Vegas. Several other diners also complained about the mother’s actions.

Ms Decker was so shocked by the mother’s actions that she decided to take a photo of one of the young girls sitting in her portable potty seat before she put it on Facebook.

On her blog, she then wrote: “While we sat down to have lunch, I noticed this young Mother was potty training her two twin daughters at the table.

“It didn’t quite register at first what was happening, but when I took a second glance I realized this is NOT OK!

“I decided to snap a picture of the whole incident and then later that afternoon as a ‘joke’ I decided to post it on Facebook. I couldn’t believe the response I got.”

The Prank That Wasn’t

September 6, 2012

Parents were challenged to play a prank on their children by making them wear embarrassing outfits for their first day of school. But watching the compilation video, I couldn’t help but admire these children rather than laugh at their expense:

Every once in a while, Jimmy Kimmel will ask his viewers to pull a prank on their loved ones and upload the results to YouTube. Last Halloween he asked parents to pretend to have eaten their kids’ candy, and last Christmas he asked them to give their kids a disappointing gift.

This time around, he challenged America to mess with that most sacred of back to school supplies: the new outfit. Instead of presenting their kids with a brand new backpack or pair of sneakers, these brave souls went with something a little more ridiculous and filmed the results.

Children today are seen as temperamental, spoiled, selfish and disrespectful. These kids were anything but. The way they reacted serves as a reminder to adults that they can not be underestimated.

I wasn’t a big fan of the set-up, but I am a huge fan of the kids involved and how well most of them handled the situation.

From 0 to 100 in 150 Seconds

September 5, 2012

What a poignant and beautiful movie this is!

Jeroen Wolf found 100 people, ranging in age from nought to 100, and persuaded them to reveal on camera how old they were.

He then put all the clips together to make a poignant video showing the volunteers counting to 100 – revealing how the ageing process alters how we look as we continue on life’s journey.

Mr Wolf said his job was easiest collecting shots of youths and middle-aged people, but that he had more difficulty accessing the very young and very old, who are more vulnerable and protected. He admitted that his collection was not completely representative of the population of Amsterdam, where the project was filmed, as representatives of some minorities were more reluctant to appear on camera than others.
