The US States That Still Allow Corporal Punishment

January 23, 2020

It is quite upsetting that 19 US states still allow corporal punishment in their schools. Below are some damning statistics from the said states. Of equal concern is the ratio of black and Hispanic children being the subject out this outdated and inhumane form of punishment.

This is What Happens When a Teacher Hits His Student (Photos)

I hate corporal punishment.

I hate that it’s legal in some states in the US. And I hate that terrible teachers use it as a crutch to establish control of their class.

These pictures are hard to watch, but important for establishing the inhumanity and barbarity that corporal punishment can cause:

A primary school pupil in China has been brutally punished by his teacher for giving the wrong answer to a maths question.

Pictures have emerged on social media showing the 11-year-old, named Xiao Yong, left with dozens of bloody marks on his back and legs.

The maths teacher, surnamed Yue, has been suspended by the Xianglu Village Central Primary School in the city of Shiyan, central China’s Hubei Province, according to a Weibo post by People’s Daily Online.

According to reports, Xiao Yong, a grade-five student, was whipped by Yue, his maths teacher, with a power cable in the afternoon of June 17.

Yue had asked Xiao Yong to go up to the classroom and answer a question written on the blackboard.

Xiao Yong was chosen because he had received the worst score in his class – 81 out of 100 points – in a previous examination.

However, Xiao Yong failed to answer the question, which enraged Yue, who is in his 50s.

Yue found a power cable in the classroom and savagely beated Xiao Yong.

It’s reported that the metal core of the cable had been previously removed when Yue used it to smack Xiao Yong, but the pupil still screamed as he was punished in front of the whole class, the report said.

After Xiao Yong returned home after school, he did not dare to speak about the beating to his grandparents, with whom he lives.

However, one of his cousins discovered the scars after hearing the child complaining about aches on his body.

Another Brutal Corporal Punishment Incident (Video)

July 21, 2014

As if torturing these kids weren’t enough, the fact that they were blind children makes it seem even more inhumane and brutal. Those involved should be jailed for a very long time:

In a shocking incident from the town of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, a video has surfaced showing some visually-impaired children being beaten by their school principal and another unknown person. The children can be seen and heard screaming, begging to be spared in the video.

While the children plead, the teacher is seen caning them mercilessly.

A case has been registered and both the accused have been taken into custody. The state’s Child Rights Commission has said that it will separately investigate the case.

A Message to Those that Advocate Corporal Punishment

Have a read of this article and tell me that angry teachers with permission to vent their frustration in a physical form against their students is a healthy situation:

A South African teacher is facing a possible murder charge following the death of a student he allegedly beat on the head with a belt, the education department said Wednesday.

Sizwe Kubheka died in hospital last week after the incident left him deaf and with blood clots coming from his nose, according to South Africa’s The Star. The student, aged around 16, lived in Palm Springs, south of Johannesburg.

Before the boy’s death the parents had laid a charge of attempted murder with police, according to the education department.

“The alleged beating happened at school,” said Gauteng province education spokeswoman Phumla Sekhonyane.

“The teacher has been arrested, we have taken him out of the school environment,” she told AFP, adding that the man was later released on bail.

“He is facing a very serious charge, in South Africa corporal punishment is completely outlawed,” she said.

Both the police and education authorities have launched investigations.

The child’s mother told the newspaper that her son returned home complaining of a headache on March 17.

She gave him painkillers because the family could not find transport to hospital, but his condition worsened.

“My boy was deaf just before he died. He couldn’t even hear or see us when we spoke with him at his bedside,” said Maria Kubheka.

“His left eye was swollen and wide open. He couldn’t even blink the eye.

“The last time I saw him, hours before he died, he had blood clots coming out through his mouth and nose.”

South Africa banned corporal punishment in schools in 1996, but as many as half of students still get beaten, according to the Cape Town-based Centre for Justice and Crime Prevention.

An Example of Teacher Sanctioned Torture at its Worst

When the price of a completed piece of homework is worth more than the dignity and welfare of a student you get a true indication that the teacher responsible doesn’t belong in the classroom.

This teacher doesn’t belong out of the classroom, but off the streets altogether:

A CHINESE boy has undergone eye surgery after he was slapped in the face around 40 times by his classmates, under the direction of his teacher.

The 12-year-old from Henan, Dou, was punished by the teacher for not finishing his homework, the Shanghaiist reports. “Whoever’s slapping is loudest will get a prize,” the teacher reportedly told students.

“After being slapped, the teacher then made me do push-ups, and did not allow me to eat lunch. Later that night, I found out that I couldn’t see properly from my left eye,” Dou said.

Dou’s mother Wang contacted the boy’s school principal when learned what had taken place. “The principal told me he would take care of it,” she said. “I didn’t know the damage was so severe. The doctor had told me my child’s eye might not be cured.”

Deng Baozhen, Dou’s teacher who commanded the slapping, claimed that punishing the children helped them to progress in class, according to reports.

“The school has given us 30,000 [yuan] ($5489) as compensation, but after one surgery had to be done, we’ve already spent it all,” Wang said.

The school’s principal said the teacher has been detained by police.

I hope all those misguided souls that believe that the answer to the behavioural problem in our schools is to allow teachers to engage in physical violence watch the video above.

Teachers should never be trusted to meter out physical punishment and it is abhorrent that Western democratic countries still allow this awful practice.

It is quite upsetting that 19 US States still allow corporal punishment in their schools. Below are some damning statistics taken from 2005-2006. I hope the numbers of students hit per state has dramatically lessened since then, but I somewhat doubt it. Of equal concern is the ratio of black and Hispanic children being metered out this outdated and inhumane form of punishment.

The Disgusting Act by a Teacher that Drove a Schoolgirl to Attempt Suicide

November 26, 2012

Not only doesn’t humiliation work in promoting and nurturing good citizens but it is an absolutely appalling practice. To strip a student naked and parade her in public amounts to disgusting conduct regardless of her infringement.

This story upsets me no end:

The scale of cruelty and corporal punishment in Indian schools was highlighted yesterday by the attempted suicide of 13 year girl who was paraded naked by a teacher for ‘stealing’ £15.

The girl was forced to remove her clothes by a female teacher at a school in north-west Delhi after being accused of stealing money and a mobile phone from a classmate. She returned home after school and jumped off the balcony of her four-storey block of flats. Her relatives said she had been distraught by her public humiliation.

Her case emerged amid a series of reports of brutal attacks on children by teachers throughout India. A four year old boy was forced to drink his own urine by his nursery teacher in Andhra Pradesh to punish him for wetting himself. A five year old boy in the same state was beaten up by a grammar school principal, while a seven year old Dalit girl was thrashed by her mathematics teacher for failing to solve a problem. A teacher was arrested in Madhya Pradesh for partially scalping an eight year old girl .

After reading this, I want even one person to come forward and explain to me how corporal punishment can be legal in some civilised countries.  How is it possible that we can allow any kind of harassment, humiliation or physical consequences, often in the hands of a person who have a clear emotional detachment of the child in question?

Legalised Corporal Punishment = Legalised Physical Assault

September 24, 2012

How can corporal punishment be legal anywhere in the US? Even worse, how can it be administered for something as petty as sharing homework answers?

A Texas high school student opted to take a spanking rather than serve another day of in-school suspension, but she was left bruised and blistered after she was spanked by her male vice principal, who violated the school’s policy on corporal punishment, reports WFAA.

Taylor Santos, a high-achieving sophomore at Springtown High School, said she didn’t know that a classmate had copied her homework, but the school assigned both students to two days of in-school suspension. Taylor volunteered to take a paddling instead, to avoid missing any classes. Texas is one of the 19 states that still allows spanking in school, but it requires that parents give permission, which Santos’ mother, Anna Jorgensen agreed to.

But what they didn’t realize was that it would be the school’s male vice principal who would administer the spanking — violating the school’s rule that the teacher giving the paddling must be the same sex as the student.

“I knew school policy was females swatted females, and males swatted males. If Taylor wanted that, I said that would be fine,” Jorgenson told WFAA, adding that she was horrified when she saw the results of the spanking and learned of who did the swatting.

“It looked almost like it had been burned and blistered, it was so bad,” Jorgensen said of her daughter’s behind.

Jorgensen said she called the vice principal to complain, but he told her that it was perfectly normal for her daughter’s bottom to look like that after the spanking and he wasn’t aware of the school same-sex swatting policy.

Swatting? You swat a fly, not a person!

Let me ask you an obvious question – What would be the punishment for a parent that hit his child so hard she had burns and blisters on her bottom?

Educators should never be allowed to discipline a child in a way the child’s own parents would be prohibited from doing.
