It seems student violence is a major issue in Britain. Reading that 900 students are suspended each day for physical and verbal violence towards teachers and classmates, indicates to me schools in Britain are at crisis point. It seems that whatever they are doing clearly isn’t working:
Bad behaviour is blighting Britain’s schools with almost 900 children suspended every day for attacking or verbally abusing their teachers and classmates, new figures show.
Every school day 13 pupils are permanently expelled for attacks and abuse and 878 are suspended in England’s primary and secondary schools.
The figures, from the Department for Education, include physical assaults, racist abuse and threatening behaviour.
In total, they show school children were suspended on 166,900 occasions for assault or abuse.
And pupils were expelled on 2,460 occasions.
And the level of violence in primary schools was also high with children aged four and under suspended 1,210 times and expelled 20 times.
Across all of England’s primary, secondary and special schools, boys were around four times more likely to be expelled than girls, with boys accounting for 78 per cent of expulsions

You see this carries over to soccer games as well. In the Miami Dade school system there are about 125 weapons incidents(reported) per year.

They do periodic unannounced body scan checks and have been able to defeat legal objections to still open lockers. But a planned assault is a one time “bring to school” thing so I don’t know how effective this is. I would say half my 11th grade girls carried at least a single age razor in their purse. Not to perform an assault but for protection. It is a fear that permeates this whole city and county as there was another all too frequent drive by shooting wounding 4 kids last week. There are well over 400,000 kids with 350 schools in Miami Dade system. One good thing is that Miami is 80% minority and at least 40% foreign born and a large majority of kids are mixed race and more tolerant than parents and anger management and conflict resolution and cultural heritage days are well instituted programs. I am astonished how explosive many of these kids are over the slightest provocation and there is no fear of consequences.

I see you’re quoting the daily mail. The Times Educational Supplement has a very different take on the figures:
“Exclusions for staff attacks plummet by 40%” http://www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storycode=6107456
Be very careful about quoting the UK Daily Mail, it is infamous for having a very right-wing, reactionary editorial stance.
